For their first League game of the new season, The under 18 girls had a tough game at Feltham School on Sunday against Woking U 18′s. Ashford were the better team in the first half and went into the break 2-1 up thanks to goals from Becky Hewes and Kelly Taylor.
Woking showed their Club’s National League standing in the seond half though, as they never gave up and kept the young Red & Blacks under constant pressure. Only numerous great saves by the Ashford keeper Sarah Stedeford kept Ashford in the game with the score being 3-3 with five minutes remaining. Woking’s superior fitness finally showed through though when they scored again to go 4-3 up. Ashford had no option but to push up to try and get an equaliser, only to get hit on the break to finish up losing 5-3. A fantastic game of high standard hockey that can only bode well for Ashford’s future.
