Overview of AHC Colts section 2009/10

The success of AHC Colts is crucial to the future well being of our club.  Half of our current members came through the colts system, and we are justifiably proud of our ability to nurture the boys and girls and encourage them to play for AHC.

If you would like your child to play a fantastic, fast, skilful team game, in safe and comfortable surroundings, look no further than AHC. We are also the cheapest place to play hockey in the borough!

We are a well-established part of the club and have excellent coaching staff and helpers, and welcome anyone who is interested in getting involved with coaching and helping our young players.

We normally cater for children from the age of 6 but can make exceptions, just pop down on a Sunday for a chat with our lead coaches. We are very fortunate to have a purpose-built Astroturf pitch right outside our clubhouse, and the club is usually open from 9.30 Sundays for snacks and refreshments.

Session times and set-up

Children are welcome to attend our professionally run training sessions every Tuesday evening and Sunday mornings from early September through to Easter.

Each age group is run by an EHA qualified Lead Coach whose first aim is to ensure your child enjoys the game safely and has fun, secondly to develop their skills, nurture their talent and knowledge of the game over the course of the season.
Within the section, we run several training groups which for the Season 2009/10 will be at the following times:

Sundays 09:30 – 11:00

Under 8 – Mixed & new to the game
Under 10 Boys & Girls
Under 12 Boys & Girls
Under 14 Girls

Sundays 11:00 – 12:30

Under 16 Boys

Tuesdays 18:30 – 19:30

Age groups up to…
Under 14 Boys & Girls

Thursdays 19:30 – 21:00

U16 Boys

U18 Girls

Boys & Girls who play Saturdays may also train on Tuesday/Wednesday Evenings 19:30 – 21:30pm (with the Adult Sections)

 Fixtures & Game Ethos

Matches and Tournaments for all age groups take place throughout the season from Under 8 Mixed up, both Boys and Girls Teams play in local Junior Development Leagues as well as BU16 at Premier. As the children mature, the club actively encourage those older children to play for the adult teams along with promoting attendance at senior training sessions.

We have celebrated many individual tournament wins and this is a reflection of the enthusiasm, dedication and talent of our coaches and children. Most of the children who play Saturday hockey are playing representative hockey of some kind and we are obviously very proud of their achievements, but the main success criteria for us is that whatever standard a child plays, they have fun, enjoy their time with AHC and hopefully develop a lifelong passion for a fantastic game. AHC have a very high retention rate so we must be doing something right!!
