Club Day

Over 50 + players turned up to enjoy a friendly afternoon of 8-a-side, mixed, half pitch size games of hockey in brilliant sunshine. Ladies Club Captain Emma Bashford-Hynes did an excellent job in organising the whole event, selecting the teams, arranging the timetable and keeping the scores. The Tournament was played on a round robin basis, with each of the six teams playing the other five. The scoring scheme of 4 points for a win, 3 for a score draw, 2 for a no score draw kept the teams on their toes throughout. The players included a lot of 13 year juniors through to experienced veteran players, all of whom varied in ability from complete newcomers to experienced first team players, including the Men's 1st team skipper, but all helped each other to ensure everyone enjoyed their games.

Injured 1st team player Nicky Benedict ensured the games ran to time and quite a few watching parents and supporters encouraged all the teams. It was a close run thing, but eventually Team 1 (Jacqui, Catherine, Lily, Jamie, Stephen, Dan B, Paul N, and Ian) were declared the winners, with four wins and a score draw. Team 2 appropriately came second (Emma, Madeleine, Charlotte, Matt S, Joe T, Luke, David E, and Chris) with two wins, a score draw and two no score draws, and both teams were awarded their edible prizes at the informal prize giving after the games had finished. There were also mini sticks for the best/most enthusiastic juniors of the Tournament - Charlotte, Madeleine and Callum, whilst the best/most improved senior players Tracey H, Paul T and Dan B were awarded medals. Young goalkeeper Jack Barber, was also awarded a prize as he stayed on the pitch, playing in goal in every round of games. Unfortunately my pictures of the presentation were accidentally deleted, but it was a fun afternoon with AHC and hockey being the winners.
