Ashford get first win at home to youthful Wycombe side

After an underwhelming draw away at the tough Chiswick last weekend, Ashford's first XI were looking to put in a strong performance against a young and unpredictable Wycombe side.

Ashford started the stronger of the two sides, pinching the ball off the Wycombe defence straight away and creating openings in the first 5 minutes. After dominating the ball, and dictating play, Ashford got the first goal through hit man Shujah ur Rehman crashing the ball past the keeper from close range. 5 minutes later Rehman beat two players and squared the ball to the back post, where the influential Jamie Hemphrey was on side to sweep the ball home. Two nil up at half time, the reds knew the next goal was hugely important and were determined not to concede an early second half goal and let the opposition back in the game like last week. At least that's what was said at half time, as we allowed the young Wycombe side to grab a goal back within 5 minutes of the restart.

Knowing that they could not repeat the same failings as the week before, Ashford ramped up the tempo and began to dominate proceedings, with Alex Betts expertly finishing off the move of the match by the hosts, which started off at the left back channel and carved through the Wycombe side as if they weren't even there.

Shortly after, Ashford added another, with Shujah ur Rehman converting the short corner he had just won himself. With Wycombe's heads down, Ashford had numerous chances to increase their lead, but unfortunately couldn't convert any more of their opportunities and ran out 4-1 winners.
