The Red and Black Army continue to pull out performance after performance.
Facing the the might of Oxford Hawks sat just below the leaders Ashford took the field in typical English weather for what was going to be the battle of the season.
With real determination, the Red and Black Army (today wearing white, inside joke for all who were there) took the game through its paces. From the first whistle to the half it was a touch and go affairs as Ashford focussed on being deliberate in game management and the Hawks got increasingly concerned by the stationary score line.
With the pressure on the home team, the Red and Black Army took the field with less apprehension and soon was rewarded when a sweeping attack saw Pitfield slot one past the Hawks custodian.
Minutes later the oldest Cottrell (Luke) started a counter in the defence and continued through the lines finding himself on the end of a team goal after some excellent passing for the visiting side.
The umpires then contrived to give a questionable stroke letting the home team off the hook and ruining Huge's (also known and Huse) clean sheet.
With the false wind in Hawks sails they tried to mount some attacks, helped along by the ever genial Matt Law, who was kind enough to give their centre mids the ball every chance he could manage. To his credit it seemed like a cruel cat and mouse game as he would presently take it off them and then give it right back.
In the end for his heroics and helpfulness Pretty (Matt Law) did the double... Man of the Match and DoD.
The Red and Black Army mount a home defence against league leaders this Sat at 14:00...
