Southgate away

Ashford 1’s travelled to Southgate and played against a very “young and fit” team. Without 5 of the 1st regular players we knew it was going to be a tough game. We started off nervously and took our eye of the ball and Southgate scored within 4 minutes from open play. We regrouped and started playing better hockey, but Southgate had another break and scored. With 2-0 down at half time we changed the formation which seemed to work with a more controlled midfield. Ashford started playing simpler and more basic hockey and kept possession of the ball. The 2nd half we had a lot more opportunities, but unfortunately couldn’t convert any chances. Special mention must go to the backs who did play fantastic hockey and kept Southgate’s fast and agile forwards at bay. Well done to players of the match Steph and Ellie who played a phenomenal game. Well done team and looking forward to 3 points on Saturday as we are playing superb hockey. (Match report by Jackie Parsons)
