If there was any match that the Ladies 2’s wanted to make the come back to winning ways in, it was this one, the one against their local rivals Staines. With a solid 13 players, Kim Downs back in the attack, the sun out, spirits high and coach Jackie on the sideline, we knew it was going to be a good match. From the first whistle, we started on the front foot, attacking with intent, playing easy passing hockey. With some great runs by the midfield / forwards, easy 1 2 passes and countless chances just going wide of the goal we knew a goal was imminent. A short corner routine not quite going to plan, saw a scuffle in front of the keeper and the ball eventually being put over the line. Heading into the second half 1-0 up we knew it wasn’t going to be easy as Staines came out looking to score. We continued to attack but just did not manage to find a second goal. Some fantastic clearances and constant communication by the defence, coupled with keeper Jo, saw Ashford keep a clean sheet. A great team performance with 9 players getting at least 1 MOM vote! There is no game next week but with confidence in the team running high, we look to start the climb back up the table. Thank you to coach Jackie for her enthusiasm and encouragement on the side line, giving us the confidence to attack!
