Beaten by Bicester

AHC 2s took on a very tough Bicester side who consistently finish in the top 4 and narrowly miss out on promotion each season. Ashford knew we had to defend well with the oppo scoring a massive 79 goals last season. However, with our 100% win record on the road and the fact that Bicester were yet to win at home, we went into the game optimistic.

Captain Anonymous was back to lead his troop which was handy as El Vice Crabitan couldn't even locate Bicester! Rocking up 15 minutes before pushback, the tricky trio of David Eastbury, David Baker (pair of) and Darren Cole injected some pace and flair into the warm-up. We were ready to go.

Ashford went ahead early with a clinical move finished off by our young front line of Rob Forster and Sam Betts. Andy Sonden (as seen on a newspaper near you) was up there somewhere too, most likely walking Scooby rather than playing our game. Bicester then hit back with two goals which brought Ashford into our typical all-out attack mode, all be it without our main mini man Matt Emmerton who hasn't been seen for weeks. Some say he is working or on holiday, some say he has joined Staines, all we know is he's getting fined. After a number of chances, one managed to find its way past the Bicester keeper to bring the teams level on 2-2. Like a sack of potatoes rolling down a hill and with the momentum, Ashford continued to push forward for a last minute winner but were unable to finish off their chances. On the break, Bicester broke away as their captain beat a number of players and smashed the ball home in the dying moments of the game.

The game ended as a 3-2 loss but the fight shown by Ashford was incredible and puts us in a great position to face another high scoring Tring side next week at home.
