Ashford 4’s Make It Three In A Row

2-1 Win Over Camberley Owls, as much changed team delivers best performance of the season
A much depleted Ashford 4s took a third win on the trot, with an excellent 2-1 away victory against Camberley Owls. Shorn of Captain Gordo, with numerous players out injured, and with key players called up to the 3s, Ashford put in the performance of the year to overcome a strong and experienced Camberley side.
A tight first half saw chances go begging in the D, as the team lacked the lucky final touch to make the most of a dominating the play. Stand in captain Jon kept the pace ticking over, whilst the father and son team of Surinder and Bram up front had a number of chances without managing to find the goal. In midfield, Nav gave another end to end performance, committed going forward and earning his reward early in the 2nd half, when a well worked move saw the ball driven in from the side line from Jon to Cuffey, making his 4s debut for the season, who fired the ball in for Nav to slot home his 2nd in 2 games.
Camberley came back hard, and midway through the 2nd half were back level. But the 4s were not to be outdone, and excellent work up front saw Bram turn the ball home for what proved to be the winning goal. Camberley applied pressure towards the end, although the match reporter can’t report too much, as I was off the pitch nursing a black eye and mild concussion- and unfortunately can’t remember very much of the final 5mins of the game!
An excellent team performance, with Man of Match awarded to Adam who put in an excellent, battling display in defence – solid in the tackle and marauding going forward. Next up, Maidenhead visit Short Lane, and the 4s will be looking to avenge a 0-2 defeat from earlier in the season, and maintain their unbeaten home record.
