Just the right way to start the season for the U18 lads, beating a visiting Spencer team 3-2.
We had a good turn out of players, from across the age groups, but everyone was up for it!!
Ian M is a new coach for the BU18s this season - he hit the ground running - thanks for your guidance and organisation Ian!

Definitely a game of 2 halves, but the result was the right one in the end!
The boys started right out of the gate, Ryan S winning a penalty flick in the first 2 mins! Their keeper was up to the task, and kept that one out, but that was not the end of it, by no means! Ashford continued to press, and it took the oppo most of the first half to wake up, but by the time they'd realised, they were 3 goals down (in 28 mins!) Lots of lovely hockey on display from the lads in red. Plenty of nice leads and mazey runs from a number of players! Shanjeet and Sam using aerials to good effect also! That was the story for the rest of the half - lots of leads - Hayden, Shanjeet and Jack M and some stellar defending - Sam R, Rohan K and Alex P solid at the back. 3 zip at the break.

The visitors woke up for the second and perhaps Ashford took their foot of the gas, but all of a sudden the oppo were scoring goals.
Alex P made a stunning goal saving tackle, Ashford losing the ball in possession, Spencer thinkin that they're in 2 on one - nope, Alex is here! We lose a couple of mins to a green card, and perhaps relax a bit too much and maybe a bit too complacement in possession - juggling and beating players looks cool, but not if you lose it! (which was the case for Spencer's second goal) It made the last 10 mins a nervy affair, but there was no giving up. Were it not for Euan's acrobatic stopping abilities it could have been more - especially at the Spencer short corners, but Ashford prevailed. Josh K was solid in the centre of mid field, Danny was running after everything - biggest applause of the day!. Zach probably played in every spot on the park, but was ever dependable. Tyler, Agam, Taranjot, and Henry all made solid contributions during their time on the astro.

No official MoM, but this correspondent thinks Alex P, Sam R and Zach are all worthy of mentions for their defensive contributions. Ryan S and Hayden both showed that they have some silky attacking skills in their hockey locker!
