Wallingford vs AHC Toes

AHC 2s started the game controlling the tempo. Excellent ball retention around the back working it to our very own Magic Mike (Steve Taylor) at right half to drive down the wing. Moving the ball around making them work in the hot conditions with big leads into midfield from target man Piers Du Boulay – welcome back. Wallingford looked uncomfortable at the back resulting in a number of chances coming from our aggressive press. We were rewarded with a PS (converted) and lucky / genius / incredible / definitely lucky high reverse deflection over the onrushing GK – both from Croxon. At 2-0 ahead we started to panic on the ball and went into the half time break at 2-1. Merchant often thought we were playing Rugby punting the ball down the line to gain yardage. With lots to think about at half time we went into the second half hoping to continue as we started the game.

Ashford regained control of the game whilst frustrating the oppo. A flurry of cards came in the second half with the majority going to Wallingford for persistent entering from the rear. Nathan (green) and Sutch (yellow) got their own back with body love taps to keep things interesting. A well won short corner from Nathan (redeeming himself from the silly card) brought about the first attacking PC of the game for Ashford. Injected to Piers, slipped right to Croxon to finish between the legs of the onrushing ostrich Wallingford GK. Multiple Wallingford PCs were saved by Huge Huse in goal which kept us in the game. Less than 10 minutes from the end another AHC Yellow - this time for Parker for having feet… The PC was converted as we fought, backs to the wall, to maintain our one goal lead until the end of the game. Ashford 3 – 2 Wallingford.

A well fought game which made Sexual Healing in the showers all that much better – the song not the action…
