This is not the end, this is not even the beginning of the end, this is just perhaps the end of the beginning - Churchill.

Post AA Meeting, AHC 2s took on Abingdon 1s at The Lane. With the Club Captain's words of wisdom ringing in our ears – I only want to win two games this season, Abingdon home and Abingdon away – we set about rectifying our 100% defeat record at home.

AHC 2s started well… wait no. We started shockingly! We batted away the early onslaught of Abingdon, resembling a game of Table Tennis with the other side of the table folded up. Being one nil down in the first ten minutes we thought it might be one of those games where none of us can even stop a ball! With the motivational story of 16 year old injury prone Shar in our minds, we set about gaining control of the game. We started to play the new Ashford brand style of hockey with In/Out passing and playing 100% passes through the midfield.

The first Ashford goal of the game came through a spin pass from Croxon to Callum Tickner on the far post with a sliding finish past the flapping Abingdon keeper. Soon after Daddy Paul Tickner added his name to the score line with a poachers finish again on the far post. Like father like son! Two goals in two games from the prolific Paul Tickner playing right half/back. History was made at the 25th minute when a midfield trio of Steve, Stephen and Step-han took the field. The next excitement of the game came from a typical Dan Lee tackle resulting in carnage… blood… death… all over the pitch. Two in two games. This time no card – learning.

Half time. Dan Lee adds him name to the scoresheet alongside the Tickners with an assist from Rob Forster. This goal would have almost made up for the previous drama if it wasn’t for an incident with a plastic box… This didn’t SLIP and FALL THROUGH my mind Dan ;)

More goals came as we started to dominate possession. The first coming from another stroke as the Abingdon keeper came from behind putting Croxon on his arse – no giggling kids. Finishing side netting making it four converted penalty strokes from three games. With the second coming from a nicely worked team goal ending with Rob Forster sliding the ball across the goal for a reverse deflection from Croxon.

The last 5 minutes proved to be shaky conceding two weak team goals. AHC 2s managed to hold on for the 5-3 win.

MOM – Callum Tickner – Strong on the ball topped off by a fabulous sliding goal. Closely followed by Digger and some Steves.

DOD – Dan Lee – Needing Uncle Tickner to step in against the big mean man after a horrendous tackle.

FFOTW (Fun Fact Of The Week) – Digger – Once dropped some butter off his knife. As it fell, speared said falling butter with a fork – Ninja!
