The Men's 4s continued where they left off last week, with another victory to head into the Christmas break on a high. After an excellent win against Marlow last week, confidence was high as they took on Sunbury Red Lions...but unfortunately, their performance in the first half wasn't. No goals, and possibly the most disappointing half of hockey this season saw a few too many missed passes, a general lack of composure, and a failure to deliver on the basics.
Time for a rousing team talk from Cap'n Gordo, and a massive improvement in the second half, as the opposition tired, and the whole team showed more poise and patience moving the ball around the pitch. The first goal was secured with an excellent penalty corner drag flick that flew into the top of the net from the evervescent "Dangerous" Dave Brant, and was followed by a second shortly afterwards, as a well worked move saw the ball driven in from the right wing by Jon Long and the ball was bundled in from a few yards out by Dangerous for his 2nd of the game.
A solid defensive performance, with Gordo and Bubbles commanding in the heart of defence meant Sunbury had limited chances to get a goal back, and the 4s were unlucky not to add to their lead in the final minutes. All in all, a satisfying result - payback perhaps after some excellent performances earlier in the season which didn't lead to a positive result that a below par performance today ultimately led to a comfortable win.
